Donor management, fundraising and programme management

For nonprofits, Salesforce is the platform where donor management, fundraising, programme management and volunteer coordination come together in one system. Outbirds has implemented Salesforce for social-impact organisations in the Netherlands since 2017, from charities and foundations to member organisations, combining the platform with solutions such as FinDock for payments and iRaiser and Kentaa for online fundraising. With the arrival of Agentforce Nonprofit, the evolution of Nonprofit Cloud with built-in AI agents, a lot is changing for the sector. On this page we explain what Salesforce can do for nonprofits, what it costs, and what to watch out for in the setup, including GDPR and handling sensitive donor data.

Salesforce for nonprofits

Donors, fundraising and programmes on one platform

Why do nonprofits choose Salesforce?

The core of every nonprofit is relationships: with donors, members, volunteers, foundations, participants and partners. Those relationships are often scattered across an accounting package, a mailing tool, a fundraising platform and a pile of spreadsheets. Salesforce brings them together in one donor and relationship view: who gave what and when, who joined which campaign, which communication someone received, and which pledges are still open.

Then there is accountability. Foundations, grant providers and regulators ask for demonstrable results per programme. By recording programmes, projects and results in the same system as the income side, you can report without manual copy-and-paste work.

Cost does not have to be the obstacle: at the time of writing, Salesforce provides the first ten licences free for eligible nonprofits through the Power of Us programme, with discounts on additional licences. The real investment is a good setup, and that is exactly where the choice of partner makes the difference.

What is Agentforce Nonprofit (and how does it relate to Nonprofit Cloud and NPSP)?

The naming has a history. For years the sector ran on the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), a managed package on top of Salesforce. In 2023, Salesforce introduced Nonprofit Cloud as a native solution on the core platform, with fundraising, programme management and case management as built-in modules. At the end of 2025, Salesforce announced the next step: Agentforce Nonprofit, the evolution of Nonprofit Cloud with purpose-built AI agents for fundraising, programme management, volunteer coordination and donor support.

At launch, Salesforce introduced four specialised agents, including Prospect Research, which helps fundraisers map potential major donors and their previous engagement. The goal is to cut administrative time, so teams can spend their hours on the work they joined a nonprofit to do.

For existing NPSP organisations there is no forced migration, but innovation goes to the native platform. Our line: if NPSP works well for you, there is no rush; if you are facing a redesign or a new implementation, start on the native platform. How do you handle donations, direct debits and payments with FinDock?

Raising money is one thing; processing the payment traffic around it professionally is another. FinDock is the payment solution native on Salesforce that we use for this: iDEAL payments, SEPA direct debits for regular donors, payment requests by email or QR code, and reconciliation of bank transactions, all recorded on the donor in Salesforce.

That enables practical scenarios that are hard with separate systems: a failed direct debit that automatically starts a task or recovery journey, an upgrade campaign aimed at one-off givers with a high average gift, or a fiscal annual statement per donor at the push of a button. See also our FinDock page.

How do you connect online fundraising (iRaiser, Kentaa) to Salesforce?

Online campaign platforms are the engine of peer-to-peer fundraising for many charities: participants create a campaign page, raise within their own network, and the organisation watches the proceeds come in. The value only truly materialises when that data lands in Salesforce: then today’s campaign participant becomes next year’s regular donor.

Outbirds builds these integrations in practice, such as the integration between Kentaa and Salesforce we delivered for the Radboud Fonds: registrations, campaigns and donations flow automatically into the donor view, without manual exports and imports. We also set up this chain with iRaiser. The pattern is always the same: the campaign platform is the channel, Salesforce is the source of truth about the relationship.

Is Salesforce GDPR-proof for donor and participant data?

Yes, provided you set it up deliberately, and for nonprofits this deserves extra care. Gift data says something about someone’s beliefs and finances, and at organisations in care, welfare or faith-based work, the mere fact of being a donor can already be sensitive data under the GDPR.

The setup determines whether you are compliant: purpose limitation and retention periods in the data model, consents and communication preferences as data rather than as an informal agreement, roles and permissions so volunteers only see what they need, and a process for access and deletion requests. For AI features such as Agentforce, the Einstein Trust Layer adds zero data retention towards the model providers and grounding on your own org data within the existing permission structure. The same enterprise-grade line we apply to all our work: your work environment and data, always secure.

What does a Salesforce implementation cost for a nonprofit?

Thanks to the Power of Us programme, licence costs for smaller nonprofits are often limited; the implementation budget is the main item. A compact setup (donor management plus gift registration, limited migration) sits in the order of a few tens of thousands of euros and 6 to 12 weeks. Add FinDock, a campaign platform integration, programme management or a data migration from a legacy package, and it grows accordingly. The biggest cost drivers are data quality (cleaning and migrating years of gift history) and adoption.

Our approach is phased: first the core live (donors, gifts, direct debits), then expand per workstream. That way you see results quickly and spread the investment. For the full trade-off in partner selection, see our guide choosing a Salesforce implementation partner.

Why Outbirds as the Salesforce partner for nonprofits?

Outbirds has worked for social-impact organisations since 2017 and knows the sector from the inside: the dynamics of fundraising, accountability towards foundations and regulators, and the reality of small teams with big ambitions. We implement the whole chain, from Agentforce Nonprofit and FinDock to integrations with iRaiser and Kentaa, and stay available afterwards for support and further development.

We also bring our broader expertise: the same agentic engineering we use to build AI agents on Salesforce for service- and asset-intensive organisations helps us serve nonprofits faster and more affordably. AI coding agents such as Claude Code work on metadata and configuration, while donor data simply stays in the org.

Frequently asked questions

Is Salesforce free for nonprofits?

Partly. Through the Power of Us programme, Salesforce provides the first ten licences free for eligible nonprofits at the time of writing, with discounts above that. Implementation and management are not free; that is where the real investment sits.

What is the difference between NPSP and Agentforce Nonprofit?

NPSP (Nonprofit Success Pack) is the older managed package on top of Salesforce. Agentforce Nonprofit is the current generation: built natively on the core platform, with fundraising, programme management and built-in AI agents. New innovation appears on the native platform; NPSP remains supported but is not the future direction.

Can Salesforce process iDEAL payments and SEPA direct debits?

Yes, with FinDock, a payment solution native on Salesforce. It processes iDEAL donations, recurring direct debits, payment requests and reconciliation, recorded on the donor.

Does Salesforce work with campaign platforms such as iRaiser and Kentaa?

Yes. Outbirds builds integrations that land campaigns, participants and donations automatically in Salesforce, such as the Kentaa integration we delivered for the Radboud Fonds. That makes a campaign participant visible in the full donor view.

Is donor data in Salesforce safe under the GDPR?

Yes, provided it is set up deliberately: purpose limitation, retention periods, consents as data, a permission structure and a deletion process. For AI features, the Einstein Trust Layer provides zero data retention towards model providers and grounding within existing permissions.

What are the AI agents in Agentforce Nonprofit?

At launch at the end of 2025, Salesforce introduced four purpose-built agents for the sector, including Prospect Research for fundraising. The agents take administrative work off people’s hands in fundraising, programme management, volunteer coordination and donor support.
